Embarking on the sustainability journey may seem daunting, but the first step is crucial: measure your impact. Just as you wouldn’t embark on a weight loss journey without a scale, you can’t effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions without knowing where they stand. It’s not as daunting as it seems—start small, take it step by step, and remember, it’s possible for everyone to make a difference.

Maison Denis' dedication to combatting climate change is evident through its internal efforts in calculating and mitigating Scope 1 and 2 emissions. However, recognizing the importance of addressing Scope 3 emissions, which often constitute a significant portion of overall emissions, the group sought assistance from Greenly for a comprehensive carbon assessment. Despite no regulatory obligation, Maison Denis voluntarily engaged with Greenly to gain insights into its carbon footprint, emphasizing a proactive approach towards sustainability.

The decision to select Greenly was taken following a thorough evaluation process of several service providers offering similar solutions. We conducted then a satisfactory pilot project with one of our companies based in Singapore. It convinced us to deploy the greenhouse gas assessment to 13 of our entities.

We were interested in the simplicity in apprehending and calculating Scope 3 emissions. Greenly's solution lies in its ability to harness financial data to streamline the complex process of emissions calculation. This capability is designed to simplify calculation workflows.

During the course of our collaboration, Greenly demonstrated availability and responsiveness. Regular meetings ensured that our project remained on track, fostering open communication and mutual understanding. Greenly understood our unique operational constraints, tailoring their approach to suit our specific needs rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all strategy. This adaptability helps in ensuring a seamless experience. They also appear to be committed to continuous improvement by soliciting feedback and looking for ways to enhance the system.

While our expectations were generally aligned with the results provided by Greenly for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, delving into Scope 3 emissions opened a new level of insight and understanding. We approached the findings with a positive outlook, viewing them as validation of our ongoing efforts towards sustainability. It was gratifying to see that the products we offer inherently possess a low carbon footprint, reflecting our commitment to quality and environmental responsibility. This reaffirmed our belief that we are moving in the right direction. 

We did not expect the relatively low impact of transportation on our overall emissions profile. Given our status as an international company with products distributed across various countries, we anticipated transportation to constitute a more significant portion of our carbon footprint. However, our reliance on long shelf-life products, such as canned and sterilized pouches transported mainly by sea freight, mitigated this impact. This realization underscored the importance of considering the entire product lifecycle in assessing emissions.

Another noteworthy observation was the significant contribution of packaging to our emissions profile. While not entirely unexpected, it served as a reminder of the need to continually improve our packaging practices. We are actively engaged in efforts to reduce packaging weight, enhance recyclability, and incorporate more recycled materials while keeping as the utmost priority the highest standard of food preservation and safety.

As we now have a comprehensive view of our emissions across all scopes, our focus is on developing a robust long-term roadmap to achieve our sustainability objectives.  While acknowledging the nuances surrounding terminologies such as “carbon neutrality” and “net-zero”, we are committed to making tangible progress in reducing our emissions. Our goal, aligned with the principles of net-zero emissions, is to achieve net zero by 2040. We are proud of the transparency we maintain regarding our emissions profile and are eager to share our progress with stakeholders through various channels, including our ESG reports.

In addressing Scope 1 and 2 emissions, our primary focus lies in optimizing energy consumption, particularly in electricity and fuel usage. We have dedicated resources to actively explore energy-saving measures, including potential upgrades to our factory’s machinery. Also, our internal communication efforts extend to engaging employees in our sustainability journey through initiatives such as EHS weeks and Climate Fresk. Regarding Scope 3 emissions, our strategy centers on engaging with our suppliers to drive collective action towards emissions reduction. While recognizing the challenges posed by our diverse supplier base, we are committed to fostering collaboration and encouraging adherence to sustainability standards. We are confident that legal, economic and technical contexts should soon evolve faster.

<h2>ITV - Background & Objectives 🔍</h2><p>Ikone was born from the Fouque Company, created by Antoine and Matthieu in 2019. Its business is to design, develop and customize all types of textiles for companies and organisations.</p><p>Historically engaged in textile marking and screen printing since 1982, the company has now become more diversified, offering embroidery and digital printing to its customers.</p><p>2 years after the takeover of the previous company, many things have changed: the emergence of a CSR policy, a threefold increase in the number of employees, a new website, and strong commercial development... </p><p>With Antoine and Matthieu's ambitions to integrate virtue into Ikone's growth, it is unthinkable for them to do so without concrete progress on their carbon impact. This is why they have chosen to measure their carbon footprint by embarking on the Greenly adventure. </p><p>‍</p><div class="container_img"><img src="https://uploads-ssl.webflow.com/6232f79b68d15d3d9b69c096/6239fc2beaf9539be4916fc0_61faa9d50928e8cadedde24c_Ikone_Feuilles-vertes.jpg" loading="lazy" /></div><h2>ITV - Why did you carry out a GHG assessment? 🤔</h2><p>The textile industry is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world. It is a market where traceability is far from perfect, and where social and environmental impacts are significant throughout the production chain.</p><p>By committing to a CSR policy, the objective was to expand our company while taking these impacts into account: as players in this market, we have our share of responsibility and we must act beyond legal constraints.</p><p>In order to reduce our GHG emissions, it is essential to be able to measure them beforehand. This is why we decided to calculate our carbon footprint with Greenly. This allows us to structure our environmental policy and to draw up an action plan to reduce our emissions in the long term.</p><h2><strong>Why Greenly? 🌱</strong></h2><p>The measurement solution proposed by Greenly is simple and intuitive. It allows us to monitor our impacts in real time and to be supported in our action and compensation plans. It is a solution that is particularly well suited to our context as a fast-growing SME.</p><p>In addition, our strategy is to go further in our measurement process before taking targeted corrective action. Since Greenly also offers life cycle analyses, they checked the boxes on everything we were looking for.</p><p>As Greenly is a recognized solution on the market, having been awarded the French Tech Green 2020 label, it seemed natural and appropriate to embark on this adventure with them!</p><p>‍</p><h2>Ikone's carbon footprint update 📊</h2><p>Our first assessment gives us a quick overview of our carbon impact. Ikone had a total footprint of 1779t CO2 in 2020.</p><p>This figure includes not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 &amp; 2) but also indirect emissions caused by service providers and services used by the company (Scope 3).</p><p>99% of Ikone's carbon footprint is indirect, and 91% is made up of textile purchases.</p><p>‍</p><div class="container_img"><img src="https://uploads-ssl.webflow.com/6232f79b68d15d3d9b69c096/6239fc011e55ea9fde089ba6_61faa9c5a8dc577892e3e3be_Image-Header-Tel.jpg" loading="lazy" /></div><h2>Ikone wants to reduce its emissions 📉</h2><p>As Ikone's impact is essentially linked to our suppliers and the textiles we import, we made these purchases our priority in our carbon plan. A responsible purchasing policy is being established, as well as the continuous search for solutions to reduce the impact of the clothes we buy.</p><p>A life cycle assessment is underway with Greenly. The aim is to specify our measures to better understand the impact of our flagship products at each stage of their production. Through this analysis, we will benefit from precise data to consolidate our GHG assessment and to guide our carbon plan in a concrete and efficient manner.</p><p>We also have a role to play in supporting our customers in their choice of textiles. A large proportion of them are still looking for low prices. That is why we try to draw their attention to the relevance of a more sustainable choice: textile quality, durability and minimal environmental impact. We are currently thinking about ways to estimate the carbon footprint of different products and communicate this to our customers.</p><p>At Ikone, we are convinced of the importance of the values and meaning that a garment communicates: choosing sustainability in the purchase of a garment allows us to convey the values it supports. Our ambition at Ikone is to make every company, association or event a brand that is recognized for its values.</p><p>As a result of this assessment, we expect to begin a Net Zero emissions reduction trajectory in order to be consistent with the COP21 objectives of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. <h2>ITV - Background & Objectives 🔍</h2><p>Cabaïa makes colourful accessories to simplify everyday life and give our customers a dose of good humour. We've been around for more than five years now. Our creation dates back to 2015 and since then we've maintained a history of very strong growth, as our turnover has consistently doubled every year. There are twenty-seven of us today, and we're recruiting even more! We sell our products through varying distribution channels: our own permanent shops, and pop-up stores. At the moment we have two permanent shops and more than ten temporary sales points. In addition, we have many independent retailers, and you can also find our products purchasable via our website. </p><div class="container_img"><img src="https://uploads-ssl.webflow.com/6232f79b68d15d3d9b69c096/63341752d3c4d58332d7996c_cabaia1.jpg" loading="lazy" /></div><h2>ITV - What motivated your environmental commitment 🤔</h2><p>CSR is at the heart of our strategy, but we don't talk about it much because we don't see it as a way to get ahead of others. For us it's a prerequisite for good business. In today's world, if you don't have a conscience for the environment and CSR, you won't get anywhere in the business world! For us, our starting point for getting involved with the environment appeared to be the measurement of our carbon footprint. If you don't have that first audit, you won't know where to start.</p><h2><strong>Why Greenly? 🌱</strong></h2><p>We chose Greenly due to their fast approach to automate information. Today, it's a bit of a jungle when it comes to CSR, it's very old school, not very precise, and usually tedious. Greenly makes it very easy to match your bank accounts, to centralize all your purchases and to produce a reliable carbon footprint quickly. We didn't want to work with a consulting firm that would have spent three months manually going through each of our invoices for a result that wasn't necessarily reliable.</p><p>‍</p><h2>Cabaïa's carbon footprint update 📊</h2><p>It's not a surprise to us at first, but the upstream production accounts for the vast majority of our carbon footprint. What we didn't expect was the individual impact we have as employees at the office. We realized that this represented less than 1% of CABAÏA's carbon footprint! Another surprise is that freight represents a rather small part of our emissions. Bringing our products from far away, whether from Europe or China, the impact of transport is not huge. Where there is a real difference is in the manufacture of the product and the fact that the country itself has little or very high carbon emissions. A Chinese factory will therefore have a much greater carbon impact than a French factory, which we had not considered!</p><div class="container_img"><img src="https://uploads-ssl.webflow.com/6232f79b68d15d3d9b69c096/6332f8ebdba446def78fcb13_toutcequevousdevezsavoirsurleconomiecirculaire.jpg" loading="lazy" /></div><h2>A word about employee engagement? What actions are you going to try to put in place?</h2><p>We discovered that we don't have to focus much energy on altering our office habits if we want to significantly reduce CABAÏA's carbon footprint. On the other hand, raising awareness is important, and individual commitments to reduce emissions can become a great victory on a global scale. With Greenly, our employees receive a newsletter with quizzes and information on the subject; this is the educational part of the support they offer. Our problem is that producing in Portugal doubles the selling price for the end consumer, which is not at all in keeping with the spirit of CABAÏA. So we are in the process of launching a complex project to simplify the production process, repatriate part of it, and try to mix know-how in different countries.</p><div class="container_img"><img src="" loading="lazy" /></div><h2></h2>
