In the United States, mandatory greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting is governed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP). Facilities that emit 25,000 metric tons or more of carbon dioxide equivalent annually are required to report their emissions. Furthermore, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced a new climate-related disclosure rule. This rule mandates that SEC filers disclose their scope 1 and scope 2 material emissions.
