Talking Medicines is delighted to be partnering with Greenly on our Sustainability Journey. As a disruptive and innovative data-tech company, we recognize we have the responsibility and the opportunity to ‘do things differently’ - to mindfully reduce our impact on the worsening climate crisis as much as we can and inspire others to do so too. With a committed team and Board, we will continue to put ESG at the core of our business-related activities, encouraging our team and stakeholders to work with us in harmony to a shared vision for the future.

Why did you carry out a carbon assessment?

As a scaling data tech company with a mission to use data for good to improve patient outcomes, it is important to us to pay attention to any potential negative environmental impact we may inadvertently create. We want to be environmentally responsible as we realise our ambition. Working with Greenly through this carbon assessment provides independent oversight from which to measure our greenhouse gas responsibility and the impact of our reduction interventions. We believe that embracing sustainability within our wider ESG goals enables us to attract employees who share our culture and values and to reassure stakeholders who are increasingly concerned about carbon footprints. Benchmarking creates the opportunity for us to share our experience with the wider community and align ourselves from a place of integrity.

Why choose Greenly?
  • Because of the simplicity of onboarding and in the production of the carbon footprint report
  • Because of the wealth of training and support materials available through the online portal
  • Because of the friendly and efficient account management
  • Because of their scientific & transparent approach to assessing carbon footprint, which is accredited by the ADEME (Agence pour la Transition Écologique)
  • Due to the strength of their measurement methodology covering scope 1,2,3 analysis & benchmarks

What does your Carbon Footprint reveal 📊

Talking Medicine’s carbon footprint takes into account direct and energy emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by service providers and services used by the company (Scope 3) which were the dominant contributor. Adding up all emissions, Talking Medicines had a carbon footprint of only 55t CO2e in 2021. This places Talking Medicines in the top 5 percentile in terms of low impact of all Greenly companies.

This is equivalent to:

  • 31 Paris-New York round trips
  • The annual emissions of 5.6 French people
  • The amount of CO2 sequestered annually by 5 hectares of forest

What are the next steps? 📉

Talking Medicine’s climate strategy can be broken down into three main aims: 1) Measure and reduce our emissions 2) Support like-minded businesses by sharing our learnings and 3) Contribute to GHG reduction/sequestration projects both in Scotland and in the US - our two main spheres of influence. Our immediate next steps are to reach out to our SGD3 partners and establish a carbon reduction plan with specific targets. We will look to the future by using our projected growth expenditure and service consumption to implement changes in a timely manner as we scale commercially.
