Cotton, a natural fibre, is predominantly composed of cellulose, a type of organic polymer. In fact, around 90% of cotton fibre is cellulose. The cotton fibres can reach lengths of up to 2 inches, the longest cells of any plant. It’s these fibres that make cotton so versatile. They can be easily twisted into thread and woven into cloth.
When you think of cotton, you probably think of its role in the fashion industry. However, cotton's versatility extends to a diverse array of products. This involves carding (aligning the fibres), combing (refining and straightening the fibres), and spinning (twisting the fibres into yarn).
